The Kinsman Redeemer
Insight into the curse on Moab
- Isaiah 16:13-14 (God gave Moab three more years and then judgment by the Assyrian King, Sargon)
- Jeremiah 48:11-13, 42-43 (Moab has been at ease & hadn’t been emptied from vessel to vessel. Moab shall be destroyed)
- Ezekiel 25:8-11 (They will know that I am the Lord)
- Amos 2:1-3 (devastating judgment on this cursed people)
- Deuteronomy 23:3-4 (Moabite shall not enter the assembly of the Lord, even to the tenth generation)
- Nehemiah 13:1-2 (Our God turned the curse into a blessing)
Is there any HOPE?
Insight into the curse on Moab because of continual rejection
Isaiah 56:1-7
- Verse 3 introduces a brand-new thought
- Let not the foreigner think that he can’t be joined to the Lord.
- For my house will be called a house of prayer for” - what? - “all the peoples.” Wow!
- Curse, then, is only in place unless there’s a turning to God.
Lamentation 5:21
Ruth Chapter 1 (overview)
- The story takes place in the time of the judges but written in the time of David
- Elimelaech takes the family to Moab because of famine
- Elimelech, Mahlon and Chilion die in Moab
- Three widows are left in need
- Naomi has heard there is bread in Bethlehem
- Orpah returns to Moab and her gods, but Ruth cleaves to Namoi
Ruth 1:16-17
- Providentially, it was the time of barley harves
Ruth 1:22
Ruth goes out to glean in a field that belonged to Boaz
Ruth gives the report to Naomi
Ruth 2:19-20
This is an amazing work of our almighty God who cares for His sheep
Naomi thinks Boaz is a great possibility.
She knows Boaz can redeem her and Ruth
Ruth 3:1-12
Who art thou? Vs. 9
Ruth had already garnered a reputation as a virtuous woman
But there is a problem!
Ruth 2:13-16
There’s somebody who’s a closer relative than Boaz
