Younger son
First, his request
Father divides the wealth
Why does the father grant him what the son wanted?
Because … he is willing to endure the agony of rejected love.
- This is God. This is God giving the sinner his freedom.
- But the sinner has no relationship to God whatsoever.
- Romans 1:24
Second, his rebellion
- Luke 15:13
And not many days later
Two kinds of people who have no relationship with God
The younger son gathered everything together
- Foolishness of a sinner
He went on a journey into a distant country
- Where’s the older son in this?
He squandered his estate with loose living
- Luke 15:30
- Luke 15:1
- Luke 15:14
Now when he had spent everything
When he arrived in the far country, he was the GQ!
A severe famine occurred in the country
- From a wonderful place under a loving father, he has come to this
- But he’s still not ready to go home.
He began to be in need.
- Like typical sinners, he comes up with the first plan
- He’s going to pick himself up!
- Luke 15:15
He attached himself to one of the citizens of that country
- He found somebody who had some means.
He sent him into his fields to feed pigs
- Leviticus 11:7
- Deuteronomy 14:8
- Luke 15:16
No one was giving anything to him
What is the lesson here? The lesson is that sin is rebellion against God the Father.
It is sin that ends you up in the pig slop, bankrupt spiritually, nobody to help, nowhere to turn, facing eternal death
