Introduction

Younger son, Older son, Loving father

• Honor and shame society

• Pharisees believed Jesus was a shameful false Messiah

• Luke 15:2

Jesus in defending himself gives them three parables

• They are far from God

• They don’t understand Heaven’s Joy is not in self righteousness

• They don’t understand that God’s Joy is found in salvation of the sinners

Shameful request (vs. 12)

• Sinners request

Father responds and shocks the listeners (vs. 12)

God gives the sinner just that freedom

• Rebellion (vs. 13-16)
• Repentance (vs. 17-19)
• Reception (vs. 20)
• Reconciliation (vs. 22)
• Celebration (vs. 23)

Older Son / Loving Father

• Shameful reaction (vs. 25-27)
• Most people say, he older son, he was the Christian
• Older son was in the field
• Father hasn’t told him anything
• The father has not informed him. Why not?
• He has no relationship to anybody in the family. 
• This is the one guy that makes sense to Pharisees.
