Un-compromising Life – Part 1

Introduction

• Have you heard the phrase, “every man has his price”?
• I suppose it’s true of the world that it ought not to be true of believers.
• Adam, Abraham, Sarah, Esau, King Saul, Aaron, Samson, Israel, David, Solomon, Ahab, Peter, Ananias and Sapphira, and Judas
• Moses before Pharaoh, Paul before Felix and Daniel in Babylon!

Daniel Chapter One

• Babylonians had taken the Jews captive
• Selected young Jewish men to rule over Jews
  • Daniel 1:7
• Put them through the system of Chaldean culture

1. First thing: wanted to change their identity
   • Daniel 1:6-7
   • Gave them new Chaldean names (associated with their own gods)
2. Secondly, wanted to change their beliefs
   • Daniel 1:4
   • Put them through Babylonian educational process
3. Thirdly, wanted to change their lifestyle
   • Daniel 1:5

• If they had given in to the lifestyle of the Chaldeans, they would have flatly denied the Word of God. Why?
  1. First: King’s food was offered to idols.
  2. Secondly, eating and drinking was the major social event in ancient times
  3. Thirdly, the law of God had strict dietary laws
     1. Daniel 1:8
  4. Fourthly, the lifestyle of the King would be the most lavish in all the land.
