Introduction
Naomi did not believe in God’s promises.
Naomi is in despair. Everyone is gone.
I. The journey back to Jerusalem (vs. 6)
1. Luke 15:17-19
First lesson: If we want to experience the blessings of God, we need to learn to repent before claiming God’s blessings.
o II Chronicles 7:14
o Psalm 80:3
o Lamentation 5:21
II. Choosing the world rather than the Lord (vs. 7-14)
1. Vs. 7 => Orpah and Ruth are going to be exposed to the message of salvation when they enter the land of God
2. Naomi stops the daughters-in-law and wants to discourage them
3. Orpah went back to idol worshiping
Second lesson: We must never turn away from God and His promises

III. Total commitment (vs. 14 -17)
1. Vs. 14 => Ruth demonstrated deep love
o Job 41:17
2. Vs. 16 & 17 => Ruth makes three strong pledges
a) Strong commitment to the family
b) Strong commitment to God and His people
c) Strong commitment to Naomi
Third lesson: I must make strong commitment to identify with God and the people of God

IV. The consequences of sin
1. Ruth 1:19 – Sin will change you
2. Ruth 1:20 – Lord made her life empty and bitter
