Introduction –

1) Shameless request - Luke 15:11-12ܛܠܲܒܬܵܐ ܕܠܵܐ ܢܚܵܦܬܵܐ (ܓ̰ܪ. 11 – 12)   

2) Shameless rebellion – Luke 15:13-16ܝܵܐܓܼܸܝܘܼܬܵܐ ܕܠܵܐ ܢܚܲܦܬܵܐ (ܓ̰ܪ. 13 – 16)  

§  Shameless request leads to shameless rebellionܡܼܢ ܛܠܲܒܬܵܐ ܗܲܠ ܝܵܐܓܼܸܝܘܼܬܵܐ

§  Living in outrageous and immoral way, helpless!ܠܵܐ ܗܹܒܼܝܼ ܘܕܠܵܐ ܐܲܠܵܗܵܐ ܓܵܘ ܥܲܠܡܵܐ

3) Shameful repentance - Luke 15:17-19ܬܝܼܵܒܼܘܼܬܵܐ ܡܲܢܚܸܦܲܢܬܵܐ (ܓ̰ܪ. 17 19) 

§  This is where repentance really begins – an honest assessment of one’s conditionܐܲܗܘܵܠܵܬܹܐ ܕܓܵܢܘܼܗܝ 

§  The son has a plan ܒܪܘܼܢܵܐ ܐܝܼܬ ܠܹܐ ܚܵܕ݉ ܢܲܩܫܵܐ

  • Luke 17:18-19ܠܘܩܐ ܝܙ:18 – 19  

4) Shameful reception – Luke 15:20-21ܩܵܒܲܠܬܵܐ ܡܲܢܚܸܦܲܢܬܵܐ (ܓ̰ܪ. 17 19) 

§  Jews would expect the father will not make himself available to meet the son. 

§  Father runs through the street bringing shame on himself to embrace his son and spare him from shame.

§  He hugged him and kissed his son.

§  This is a sign of acceptance, friendship, love, forgiveness and reconciliation.

§  That father is doing exactly what Jesus did

5) Shameless reconciliation & rejoicing – Luke 15:22-23ܣܲܙܓܲܪܬܵܐ ܘܚܵܕܘܼܬܵܐ (ܓ̰ܪ. 2223)

§  He gives him 3 things:  Robe (honor), a ring (authority), and sandals (master).

  • Romans 4:5ܖ̈ܗܘܡܝܐ ܕ:5  

§  Essentially he lay claim to all that belongs potentially to the older son.

 

Why did the father reward such a son?

  1. God receives sinner who come repenting and believing. John 6:37ܝܘܚܢܢ ܘ:37
  2. God is full of mercy – Psalm 85:15-16ܡܙܡܘܖ̈ܐ ܦܗ:15 – 16 
  3. God replaces the filthy stinking rags of the sinner with His own robe of righteousness.  Isaiah 61:10ܐܫܥܝܐ ܣܐ:10 
  4. God treats the sinner as if he was royalty, making him an heir and a joint heir with Jesus Christ. Romans 8:17ܖ̈ܗܘܡܝܐ ܚ:17 
  5. God holds a heavenly celebration for every wretched sinner who has been saved. ܠܘܩܐ ܝܗ:6، 9، 23
