Taming the Tongue – Part 2

Introduction –

• The tongue is a tattletale, it tells on the heart, and is the revealer of the heart.

James gives us five compelling reasons for the control of the tongue.

1. The tongue has the potential to condemn (vs. 1-2a)ܓܲܪܫܵܢܵܐ ܠܕܝܼܘܵܢ
   • Let not many become teachers (vs. 1)
     • The word is didaskalos (did-as’-kal-os), it’s translated “master”
     • James 1:26ܝܥܩܘܒܼ ܐ:26  
     • Leviticus 10:3ܟܗܢ̈ܐ ܝ:3  
   • We shall receive a stricter judgment Krima (vs. 1)ܕܝܼܘܵܢ ܒܘܼܫ ܙܵܘܕܵܐ ܒܸܬ ܩܵܒܠܵܚ
   • We all stumble in many ways (vs. 2a)ܣܵܒܵܒ ܪܵܒܵܐܒܸܓ̰ܪܵܛܵܐ ܝܘܵܚ ܟܠܲܢ (ܓ̰ܲܪ. 2ܐ)

2. Tongue has the power to control (vs. 2b-5)ܚܲܝܠܵܐ ܕܙܲܒܛܸܢ
   • And able also to bridle his whole body (vs. 2b)ܡܵܨܹܐ ܙܲܒܛܸܢ ܐܘܼܦ ܠܟܠܹܗ ܦܲܓܼܪܹܗ

     • By controlling the tongue, the whole life is directed to a useful purpose.

     • Power applied at the right point is sufficient to control the whole vessel.
3. Even so, the tongue is a little member, but boasts great things (vs. 5a)
4. Powerfulthing is the tongue.  And if we get a hold of it and control it, it can control all the rest of us. 
5. Tongue has the power to destroy or condemn (vs. 5b-6a)ܚܲܝܠܵܐ ܕ ܬܲܠܩܵܐ ܝܲܢ ܦܲܪܦܸܣܵܐ
